Phone contracts
« on: 27 May 2013, 16:29 »
Hi, misses decided to chuck my trousers in the wash when I said not too, now my phones dead even with the "put it in rice, so it lures and asian guy to fix it as they are good with technology" - trick did not work sadly. Since I've not got much left on my contract I decided to cancel, to my surprise the current deals with o2 are awful and even with haggling and stating what other providers offer they did not seem interested in retaining my custom even though I have been with them 10 years. From a quick read, this seems to be common practice with o2 as of quite lately that they don't try much longer to price match or retain customers.

So the question is, where is the best place to look for a new deal? Any good comparison sites people can recommend dedicated to monthly tariffs? Should I try and re-ring o2 in a last attempt for a deal as my cancellation is scheduled for 3rd June?

Thanks in advance

My contract was recently up for renewal, I was perfectly happy with Orange in terms of customer service, coverage etc so wanted to stay with them (Orange Wednesdays were a bonus).

I rang them to see what they could offer and like you the deals they put down were very poor!

www.buymobilephones.net had some much better deals on Orange contracts which they wouldn't match. I wanted to keep my number and stay on Orange which I could only do if I renewed through Orange, not a 3rd party.

I decided to cancel my contract and get a T-Mobile PAYG sim for a month and bought one of their bundles, transferred my number to T-Mobile. When the month was up took out another Orange contract through Buy Mobile Phones and transferred my number back.

Was a bit of a ball ache but my contract is more than £10 a month less than had I renewed straight through Orange.

Good to know! I found the S4 contracts to be pants for the money unless you was going to pay some serious monthly cash, the HTC one was tempting but after reviews I was somewhat annoyed as there's a lack of buttons the software make UI buttons appear over your current app, which means you loose a considerable amount of space in that big screen. The nexus 4 was tempting to but with 4g definitely coming in by 2014 for all providers it seems a shame to get a phone with 3g compatibility. So the Xperia Z was my choice in the end, plus the spec says it can last 30min in water, so should the misses ever throw it in the machine next time it should hopefully survive

I'v just taken the s4 out this month. 1GB Data, Unlimited calls and texts, £33 a month.

I got 20% Monthly discount from Vodaphone because I work for Landrover, or JLR as they put it. I can also nominate 5 family and friends for the deal too. They had a huge list of companies they would reduce your contract for.

Might be worth a look. Only reason i found out was I went in on my lunchbreak in my boilersuit and the shop assistant offered me it. Had to give them my payroll number and it got accepted. Delighted!
