help needed with residuals on paint

Hi all

i just washed waxed and polished the car.  There are residuals left mostly on the back of the car and on the roof (concentrating mostly on the top of the spoiler).  Very few on the side doors.  I can't seem to make what they are, they are really tiny brownish bits (no bigger than the tip of a needle), they can be seen if you look from 2 feet away since there are lots of them, and they certainly can be felt.  I'm sure they've been there for some time now i remember seeing them during previous washes but now i thought it's time to get rid of them.  I haven't applied pressure on them when washing the car so i didn't scratch the paint.

How can these be removed?  Claying maybe (which i haven't done before)...

Most likely whats called "fallout", it's little iron filings that stick to the paint, if you've never clayed your car before then it would definately help, a lot of people use a product called iron-x these days which is ph neutral and actually disolves the fallout deposits without damaging your paint, just don't let it dry in the Cyprus sun!!

Yea, sounds like tiny bits of contamination. Either iron deposits or tar from the road. A clay bar should sort it; if it doesn't get some de tarrer (AS tardis for example) and some de ironizer (iron x).

thanks for the input.  two  questions though (the first may sound really silly):
1. claying: is the clay we are supposed to do the car with, the same as the one little kids use to play with??? And does it matter what color it is?

2. Would you suggest any of the following lubricants (got them from the MK5 detailing forum)?>
  Meguiars Quick Detailer Spray
>  Meguiars Last Touch Detailing Spray
>  Meguiars #34 Final Inspection
>  Clearkote Clay Lubricant
>  Pinnacle Poly Clay Lubricant

Any clay lubricant, you can use water. The key is to keep the clay bar and the surface wet, this stops the marring on the paint. I use Autoglym clay bar with their rapid detailer for a lubricant.

Clay bar = clay bar, playdo = playdo! Two different things, buy a clay bar!

clay bar for cars then  so i don't have to buy a lubricant.  I will be travelling to Scotland in a few days time so i better wait and get it from there, can't seem to trace any such things down here. Thanks Ginge and previous commentors for your valuable help

Basically int the atmosphere there are tiny little particles of iron, from brake discs for example. People who live near train tracks suffer with this or forges. These particles sit on your paint like dust but when they get wet they rust quickly and sit on top of your paint.

A de-ironizer will help break down these particles and also help highlight where they are. Do be worried about it, it's really common and can easily be sorted. Once you've got rid of them treat your self to a decent rapid detailer for between big detailing sessions as most of these will keep them at bay. I clay my candy white probably once a year but I do keep on top it.

My suggestion would be to wash and dry your car as normal and then clay bar, this will get rid of all contaminants even ones that you would never be able to see. Then I would seal your paint and then wax with something like Dodo Juice Candy White. I suggest you join the Waxamomo forum and ask the guys to out together a shopping list for you.
