Stalling at junctions
« on: 08 August 2005, 10:12 »
Hi, I've got a P reg 2.0L Golf GTI (Mk3), and although it drives perfectly, when I come to stop at a junction or roundabout, the revs drop way down, and sometimes it stalls. I can control it to an extent by lifting the clutch back up again and gently slowing down, as it seems to be exagerated by stopping quickly.

This has been going on for months now and it's really annoying! A typical 20 minute journey to work can see it stalling 5 or 6 times. Having read a few posts on here, I don't think it's the Relay 30 problem (it never cuts out when driving), but it might be a dirty throttle housing. I did try to clean this out (by taking the air inlet pipe off and squirting carb cleaner into the butterfly), but I'm not sure how well I did this, and it made no difference.

So... Has anybody else had the same experience and found a solution? Or how do I go about properly cleaining out the throttle housing?

Thanks a million,

Gav

it'll be a dirty throttle body, you need to give it a right good clean, hold the butterfly open and get behind it with carb cleaner. Also squirt plenty in when the engine is running and give it a good rev. Worked for me!
