Vr6 abs ecu question

Evening all,

Having major trouble with my vr at the moment... The ABS light keeps coming on intermitantly, it's failed the mot due to this problem! My mechanic recons it's the abs ecu that's faulty, something to do with heat build up... Anyone have any experience with this problem?

I have found a few replacement ecu's on eBay, I'm not sure though if il need to have it reprogrammed once fitted?

Have you hooked it on vag-com?, don't be foolish enough to start spalshing money on things you may not need. It may even be a faulty sensor or wiring to the sensor.

I've had this problem before, intermittent abs light glowing on n off. Showed up as sensor faulty, bought one, put it in, still the same, so checked wiring and the wire that goes into clip had broke. Try the easy route first before buying expensive/un-wanted parts mate.

I had thought that... Turns out he replaces the faulty rear sensor and it's still showing a fault but won't clear on the diagnostics, I have a feeling it may be the wiring too!

Rear sensor is usually a sign of a faulty ecu. They can be repaired. Or you can get a SH one. Take a chance but its a gamble and it still may be faulty.

Not always tshirt mate. I had same issue got vag com onto it, it showed rear drivers side sensor. I had an idea and wiggled the connection under the rear seat and light went out.
Id dissconect the wiring under the rear bench and connect it then reset the fault. If same then do a live test then go from there.

All sorted! Turns out it was the ecu over heating... The mechanic wrapped it in heat shield material and the fault seems to have be resolved, and the car has passed the mot! Happy days
