If I was religious about washing my cars I would get Carbon Grey.

I am! So I have.
is it really that difficult to look after though?

No it's not my mk6 is carbon grey and fine, no issues with a cg mk7 joining the fleet

+1 My MK6 is CSG and it's definitely not in the same league of showing dirt as my MK5 which was black!

Is the golf ball gear knob in the photos standard fitment? I've specified it as as an option as it's showing as an option on the VW configurator.

It is standard. Quite why it's an option for the GTI only VW knows cause it's defo standard - so you've saved some cash right there!

You can't configure it, it's standard. Do you mean that generic "sports gear knob" for £125 in the accessories bit?

Yes, that's what I mean - apologies, it's late!

Good news - how rubbish is that configurator! My dealer thought the golf ball was an option too - it hasn't been standard on any normal GTIs (except the Anniversary and Edition models) since the Mk 2 in 1991.

I've specified cloth winter pack and lane assist too - after reading earlier posts, goodness knows what will happen with those options!

The speedo really should have had the larger numbers at 30, 50 and 70... is there an option to show mph as a digital readout on the VII? I notice that the km/h figures are now on the gauge unlike the Mk VI.

I had a 1.6TDI S Mk7 as a hire car last weekend and it was able to show mph on the basic digital display (in large numbers).

That's a shame as I prefer the less cluttered look of the Mk6 speedo and don't mind the digital kph.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
