New car
« on: 22 May 2013, 19:39 »
Hi all, I've recently accepted a job offer from my bro and as part of the package there is a car. My annual mileage will be 35000 due to a 100 mile round trip commute so unfortunately the Edi may have to go due to the cost of fuel so I'm looking at two cars:-

A Class 220cdi Auto only available in 5dr
Night pack
Becker pilot
Metallic
Mirror pack
4 way lumbar adjustment
Brabus upgrade 210bhp if dealer can do it

GTD 3dr DSG
Tornado Red
19" Santiago
Dynaudio
Colour MFS
Voice activated Bluetooth

Both vehicles are roughly the same CO2 so will cost me similar in CCT.

Couple of questions, what to people think of having a non metallic paint with the mileage? And seeing as I've only ever had cars with electronic lumbar support, what are people's thoughts of the manual version? I have three pro-lapsed discs which can cause me some gip sometimes.

Ideally I'm only looking at a two year change cycle so the GTD fits just outside my budget the A class is £50 over which I don't think would be a huge issue.

Thanks for your thoughts?

If you want to change, get the golf, easy decision due to level of kit, and stated ugliness of the merc.  Are you able to take the cash equivalent as an allowance towards your own personal car?  I'd seriously consider that and keep my Ed35 if I had the option.

A Class looks very poor in the metal, and the display/media unit looks like something out of a fiat panda, very disappointing.
Cancelled GTI, M135i beast mode.

Driven the A class its a wolloy bus. but guess this would be good for you back

I have 2 slipped discs and also suffer with back problems.

the manual lumber on my mk6 GTD combined with the heated seats keeps the back pain at bay.

I drive from northwest uk to austria / italy at least twice a year and have had no serious back issues.

hope that helps

Why not buy a cheap Mk5 GT TDI and keep the GTI for weekends and shows?

Thanks guys, I'd love to keep the 35 but I'd end up hardly driving it which would be a real shame. I agree about spec levels, I've driven the a class and in sport mode it was excellent. I now need to drive a GTD to really make my mind up.

Get the Golf GTD, get rid of the cab and give the ED35 to the wife

I still think you should get a cheaper but presentable car for work. Getting rid of either the 35 or the Cab will realise a fair sized depreciation. So what if you don't drive it much? If it's not eating any grass, I'd keep it and enjoy it all the more now and again. The only person that will benefit from your fastidious care of it will be the next owner.

Yeah I've considered both of the above, my car sits about right with regard the finance and part ex but the cab is a mile off so not an option really. I thought about selling the 35 privately, this way I might put a few quid in my pocket too.
