Personally said the 'feeling' goes against any rationale that can be placed on common parts and specifications as we all see and understand them but fact remains its how you feel that is a big factor too - Also there maybe many shared common parts and specifications but finish is invariably less in quality and that cabin feel plays a big part to.

We all quite educated here, drove many cars of all different qualities and you think we would see the black and white logic and yet we still say there is a difference and we are prepared to pay more for it? So there must be one and many have questioned me on this change (BMW and Audi drivers) as to why am I moving 'down' to a VW!

Understand your logic as of course it makes total sense but car buying and logic? never 2 words that have gone together well as heart takes over the mind ;)

For what it's worth:
I've just come off a 4 year deal with Audi... A4 20.T S-line - the worst experience I have ever has with a car (Brilliant when it was working, but boy did it spend time in the garage!) Seat used to be on my options (company car), but every time someone priced one it was always cheaper to order a VW due to resale values. The GTD I have ordered is cheaper than a series on a monthly basis and cheaper than a Focus, A3 by, about £80 a month (£30 cheaper than than the Focus) mostly to to with resale values. The reason is, I am told, that 2nd hand high spec Golf Diesel's are so highly sought after
GTD Pure White : 19" Santiago's : Winter Pack : Dynaudio : Park Assist : High Beam Assist

Great point as from a company car perspective the gap closes considerably as all sorts of intangibles come into play on how they price them - Reason did not go GTI was because of C02 incentives made a near chasm of a difference to the GTD and actually saving me quite a bit of ££ over model have now.

My A3 has been perfect not a single issue and I just think across the more recognised brands you do sometimes just get a bad one and that by switching brands you not protected from it in anyway.

I'm going to look at the Leon tomorrow with the view of cancelling my order for the gtd. Nearly 4k cheaper for almost the same equipment including some options. sick fed up of the waiting and the way VW UK have treat people.

Haha what?? So what you're going to do is cancel your order with a subsidiary of VAG and buy a car from another subsidiary of VAG?

In what way does the company lose out in this?
At what point did I say I was cancelling in protest?? I still need a car and technically if I pay less for a Leon then vag are getting less money!!

As for this badge snobbery conversation I can't believe what I'm reading!! Exactly the same bits go into a seat, Skoda, VW and believe it or not an Audi! If you think your getting a better quality of part just because you've got an Audi over a VW or seat or Skoda then you need to have a long chat with yourself. if you look on etka the same parts numbers are across the whole brand its just Audi charge you more because you've got an Audi and they play you into thinking your getting something special from them. I don't see Audi or VW anywhere near the top of the customer satisfaction tables but Skoda consistently out do all the other vag brands. Considering they are supposed to be the 'poor relation'in the group I think Audi and VW swell as seat could learn a thing or two but then again with all this snobbery they probably think they are the best anyway!!

I'll be the first to admit that in terms of cars I am a definite car snob. A lot is to do with desirability and that's where imo Audi trumps VW and VW trumps both Skoda and SEAT's. IMO the vast majority of people who drive Skoda's and Seat just want a car that will get them from A to B so provided running costs are low and reliability is fairly good then they are going to score well in customer surveys.  Most of these people don't care about car brands and that's absolutely fine; they would rather go on nice holidays abroad or spend their money on other things. For me, I love my cars and that's where I would rather spend my hard earned.

I like cars that are head turners and to me Skoda's and SEAT's are not those type of cars. Sorry if this offends but it's just my opinion

.... Agreed, CO2 puts the GTI at a ridiculous cost, I also know the lease company got the hump after spending £9k on the A4 over 4 years...oops!

I never would judge anyone on an option or a car choice or on anything as we each so different in what makes us tick - some will get turned on by MPG others by .1 of a second or if see some of cars round here the lowest you can get a car to ground without it touching is your thing! ;)

If I was really worried about image I may have stayed with Audi or gave into all it would have taken to go GTI so by going GTD I have I feel fallen somewhere in the middle and quite comfortable I am with my choice :)

Sorry guys but of a sh1tty day at work. Patience is a bit thin and the new car buzz has definitely driven off. Something that was exciting in April when I ordered has been totally ruined by a potential and likely mid September delivery. I personally couldn't buy an Audi knowing that a VW, seat and Skoda do the job I need out of a car just as good. Same warranty on all cars, same parts etc etc and build quality is subjective. I loved my 2005 Leon fr diesel and yes you could tell it didn't quite have the same thud of a VW Golf door but I knew that when I bought it. If I could just get an explanation as to why I was told June/July and is now expected September it would help. I might not be happy still but at least I'd know. if it's down to me changing my order then that's fine I'd know. if it's something at the factory fine but I'd know.

It's frustrating when it seems so far away but honestly September will be here before you know it. The worst thing you could do is cancel just now, as sure as hell, you will end up regretting it when a new GTD pulls up alongside you on the road. I know it's easier said than done but try and enjoy the summer and put out of your mind for  a while

You might call them more 'stomach turners' than 'head turners' then?

You're right, they're not head turners.  Not in a good way anyway.  That said I think it is deliberate.  They don't intend to compete with VW or Audi, so they pick a different styling.  Skoda goes for more solid and chunky, maybe to get over their reputation on reliability.  Seat picks a more flamboyant style, but in a way that says "I'm plastic, not metal, but that makes me affordable and from a distance who can tell?"  That is how the brands speak to me anyway.

Also Craig is right about regretting cancelling.  Don't do it unless your sure maddy!  Things might be about to get better... And there is always us lot to cheer you up .
