Its on the inside of the 6-speed box's.

Its part of the release bearing, Its uses a CSC. I have just replaced the one in my LCR and its a Gearbox off job.

How are you trying to bleed the system?

You can gravity bleed them, just crack the nipple and let the fluid drain through without pressing the pedal,
Pull the pedal up and leave it up with the nipple cracked. Once fluid comes out tighten it up.

The easybleed takes 2 minutes to bleed, Gravity bleeding will work but can take time so be patient.

Its harder to remove the 6 speed box due to it being larger.

Get the car up as high as you can, that will help loads. Its pig heavy so make sure you have someone to help you
lift the bugger back in.

I did a diesel 6 speed and that was on the outside so thought the petrol ones will be similar, sorry! Mk4 gearboxes came out a lot easier if you get the subframe out the way, are you doing it on the drive?

It is possible that I'm wrong.
I am basing this on my Cupra R 6 speed which I think is the same as the golf 6 speed?

Its easy to identify which is fitted by looking at the gearbox.

also I would agree it would be easier to remove the subframe,

I unbolted mine and pushed it backwards a bit but can be done without dropping it.
