Mk2 16v abf need brake upgrade
« on: 21 May 2013, 14:03 »
Currently my 1990 mk2 has 256mm brakes. Not enough stopping power for 180hp!

I have searched and keep finding that the g60 set up is what I need. What about other donor cars?

Will the brakes from an Ibiza cupra mk2 16v bolt straight on? Thanks in advance

If you use mk3 16v hubs and ball joints with your existing hub flange, you can go to 288, it does mean having the discs drilled to 4x100, I don't have this issue as I'm running 5 stud, but the reason I went for this setup is that you only need a spacer made and you could go 312mm on the mk3 16v/vr hubs.... However there is plenty of stopping power with the 288 & mk3 master cylinder... I only have to breathe on the coward pedal an it pulls up hard...

No.  That's the 5X100 fitment stuff.  the MKI Ibiza GTI 16V has 280mm in 4X100 which will be fine for what you have.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

And carriers. You can actually use your 256mm calipers with 280mm discs and 280mm caliper carriers but you need to skim pads by 2mm as 256mm discs are 20mm width whereas 280mm are 22mm

Sorry to hijack this but it's a long the same line. Can the mk3 ibiza cupra 1.8t (2000) front hubs, calipers etc be used on a mk2 golf as they are 280mm and 4 x 100? Also are they the same calipers and carriers used on the g60 setup? Cheers
