My MK5 is heading to the Nurburgring
« on: 21 May 2013, 10:34 »
Hi guys, a friend and I are planning a little trip the Nurburgring in a few months’ time, and I was hoping to get some advice from you helpful fellows and anyone who has graced the rings tarmac before.

I was looking to get all the fluids in my car changed before the trip, and I have read plenty of posts on what oil to use so I won’t be asking that, the ones I wanted advice on are the brake fluid and coolant.

Coolant I am guessing the VW G12 is probably the best way to go, unless there is a better quality coolant out there that someone could recommend?? As for the brake fluid has anyone got any recommendations? I know 5.1 is better but will it still be OK for standard road driving or will it only suite the heavier braking the Nurburgring demands?

I also wouldn’t mind upgrading my brake pads to something better than OEM, and while I am at it changing the brake lines for some braded ones. What would you guys recommended. I am looking for something that’s suitable for road use, but will offer that little extra over OEM when pushing the car.

Lastly are there any other recommendations for what else I can do to the car before the trip, stuff that doesn’t cost an absolute packet, but will make the trip a load more fun and safer.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

It basically depends on how your going to drive your car around the ring?
I've done it a few times now, and i'm doing it again next week.
I usually do a full fluid service beforehand.
Upgraded my pads to red stuff pads, yellow seemed a bit of an overkill.

New tyres as it might rain.
A visit to the opticians to make sure your eyesight is ok.
Comfy clothes and light shoes.
Not too fat (passenger and driver).
Don't drink too much the night before.
Learn the corners before you go, or as best you can without actually driving it.
Go sooner rather than later.  The 'ring may close (up for sale).
Currently digging a bunker.

Phone your insurance, most insurers won't cover you if you have an accident on the ring. ;)

Pure water as coolant is something we did, less like to cause a problem if you have a spillage.

Get yourself Forza on a console and have 50 laps of it before you go.

Make sure all your rubber bushes are in good condition.

When are you looking to go? And also where are you travelling from?
