16v revs... engine mount too..
« on: 07 August 2005, 18:18 »
The more and more i drive the car, the better i get to know it and the happier i am. Anyway ... playing around on a dual carriageway today ... noticed the car comfortably revs past the redline into 7500k territory without noticable dip in engine power like my 16v ibiza use too .. is this a regular thing for the 16v golf ?

Also, i am due to change the engine mount next week when it arrives. Has anyone got a quick guide to doing it ? do i jack the engine up a little ? do i need to disconnect anything so nothing breaks ... , or can i jack up , and put the new mount on and lower engine ...

your input and help as always is appreciated.

Brett

Which mount you replacing?  If the front its easy, undo the 2 bolts underneath and the nut on top, then jack the engine up on the gearbox housing next to the sump slowly untill you can wiggle the old one out & the new one in.  Then lower the engine slowly and get the threads on the nuts & bolts started before you release the weight fully, I made the mistake of dropping it straight down and couldn't get the last bolt in, had to undo it all and start again

If the gearbox mount its a little more tricky, you need to undo the main bolt then the 2 smaller bolts either side, then remove some of the gear linkage and the linkage bracket bolted to the gearbox.  This gives you enough room to remove & replace the mount once you jack it up :)
