Right, now I've slept on it and had a good rant with the wife, whilst still not happy (far from it), I've become a little more pragmatic overnight.
The way I see it is simple, if I am unhappy, then I can vote with my wallet and cancel. The fact that I've been a loyal customer of VW for over 10 years and have purchased 6 straight cars from them in this day and age means nowt, zip - I now accept that.
So looking around last night at an alternative to the Golf, I only really short-listed 2 models that I guess I would be "happy" with. One is the Audi A3 Sportback S-Line (similar price or maybe a touch cheaper than the GTD), however the boys over at Audi-Sport.net, are all moaning at the extended delivery times for these models, with 6 months being quite normal. So If I cancel the Golf, I would probably get the Audi no quicker than if I stuck with the Golf.
The other option was a BMW (yes I know, I know

) 320D M-Sport with a few toys. Trouble with this option is that although the guys over at BMW say they can get me a factory order for an order placed this week delivered by the end of July, price wise, it's about another £3k more than the Golf (and with not as good a trade in).
The other factor to consider is the wife's car. Whilst she is more than happy to cancel the order for her Polo GT (that's just about to arrive), on looking around last night, she finally admitted that there's no other car in this price bracket that really meets her requirements. Only a Mercedes SLK 55 AMG got her interested, but at over £50k, funnily enough I said NO !
In the cold light of day, I've come to realise that the Golf ticks all the boxes for me and is the car I really want, so whilst I'll be keeping the pressure on with VW UK and the Dealer (I've just written a stinking letter to the dealer principle of my ordering dealer), I guess I'll have to hunker down, and accept that VW just screw everyone over and accept that the car is going to be 3 months later than promised.
The "only" silver lining is that the part ex price on my Scirocco is fixed in stone, so my collateral is increasing on the car (and therefore my deposit required decreasing), and that the VW will hopefully end up with a car (my Scirocco that is), that will be worth less than market value and give them a cold. I'll also be pushing for more goodwill gestures such as contributions to some of the options, free fuel etc. etc. however I'm not sure how realistic that will be.
I think the best thing is just to forget about the car for now, enjoy the Scirocco over the summer (it is after all a beautiful car), enjoy my 50th Birthday on Friday (yes money and presents gratefully received

), have a good summer holiday and accept that the Golf will be here when it's here..........
Not sure that VW will get my business next time though.
