Hi

I seem to be using more fuel than usual lately in my 1.8t AUM without really doing any extra driving. My MPG read out is good, about 32 mpg around town and 38 mpg on a long drive, but the fuel guage itself has been dropping a lot quicker lately.
I don't have any fuel fumes coming into the car but I want to rule out a fuel leak. Apart from under the car, where else can I check for a fuel leak? Near the fuel rail under the bonnet?

Thanks

+1 or if you keep your revs below 2k you should be hitting 50 miles per 1/8th of a tank around town driving or in 5th gear on motor ways at just over 3k (70mph) then you should be getting about 40mpg or about 70miles out of 1/8th of a tank. tyre pressure, weather, load etc all have an active role in this too but i got over 270miles on my way to scotland on 3/8ths of a tank but that was proper scenic driving  :lipsrsealed:

doubt its a fuel leak but if you really want to check, just follow the fuel lines all the way through the system. could have proberbly done that before you got half of these replies.

just make sure you dont have a fag in your mouth as your doing it :D

No I can't smell fuel inside the car. I'll check the fuel lines.
Another reason I think there might be a leak it cos when I leave it parked over night I'm pretty sure the gauge is slightly lower even when it hasn't been driven! It could just be the fuel settling in the tank though?

If you were leaking enough fuel to notice it on the gauge then you'd see it under the car as well. Highly doubt you have a leak
