U281 Code Reader ABS
« on: 14 May 2013, 14:45 »
Hi. New to the forum as I've just bought a Mk3 Gti 16v Anniversary. I have got an abs fault light and was wondering if anybody knew if the U281 reader will tell you which side the fault is on if its a sensor problem? Or will it just tell you about the generic fault? Cheers

Or can anybody recommend a code reader that can tell you the side of the fault.

yeah it will give you a code, look the code up on the internet and youl know which one it is. each corner is a different code.

prepare for more than a sensor tho.

You should get a booklet with the code reader with all the codes in
And yes it does tell you which sensor is faulty

That's great thanks. Are there other things I should expect with this fault light?

until you scan it, it could be a number of things. could be a big headache. hopefully it will just be a new sensor you need!

U281 is great, I have one and use it just like ole Boney.
My tip for ABS issues, change all the sensors in one hit.
Not cheap but you will end up chasing dodgy sensors round the car, I reckon they last about 18 months on average .
When you know they are all good you can focus on the pump if the light stays on.
Even better if you could combine with a brake service

Yep,  mine came with a booklet listing all the fault codes.
