If you own the car then it's worth looking after. Good petrol can only help.
Is it worth it? I don't know but at least if I'm paying too much I feel good about it.
The car feels smoother, mpg is seems better and more responsive.
Opinion over 4 years only.
No conclusive evidence either way that I can find.

Oil.
40k and not used a drop in between services. 3-4 litres a year? On a petrol engine?
I'd be worried.
Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.

Was just thinking about this at the pump today.  Like with the performance pack its something that needs a more serious test to actually know if its worth it or not.

How about oil?  What do you guys like to use?

Castrol edge fully synthetic is what I would tend to use. If the oil consumption on the GTI is anything like my TT then you'll end up going through 3-4 litres a year

What mileage were doing a year?

8k approximately

The car has run fantastically well during the time I've owned it, it just has a bit of a thirst. It's actually very common with the TFSI engines for some reason

The MKV GTI was notorious for burning oil. I used to have to top mine up regularly and was assured it was pretty normal! Car was well maintained and minded.

My MK5 GTI is no better or worse regarding oil than any other car I've owned.  I have never needed to top it up between services.

Well this is very strange.  I can't see any radon why a new car would use oil nor have I ever experienced it.  My current Fiesta had never needed a drop. Yet quite a few replies here say they have needed oil...  :undecided: :undecided:

Don't get it. If I had to put oil in a car less than 3 years old I would want to understand why.

As I said, the TFSI engine in the mk 5 and 6 were known for it. The dealers even gave me 2 pouches with a litre refill in each when I collected the car. Well documented issue.

Agreed. Its a common trait of these VAG engines. There's nothing to worry about

New engine drinks oil and dealers say its nothing to worry about... Err... I think that makes me more worried.  I cannot foresee any good reason for a new engine to need oil.  And if there is a reason I want them to tell me precisely what it is not just tell me not to worry about it

Disagree with Joe and Craig.

Should not use any oil.

I'd be worried.
