My local vw place are a bunch of turds.

Needed to get the vacuum leak of my central locking fixed.

One of the locks in the door had cracked off by the hose ( I believe glue should do the job). They wanted 2500 dkk (280 quid) for the locking thing (the white box) replaced. And they didn't know if there would be any other in need of replacing, cause apparantly, they don't even have a f**king smoke machine to check for vacuum leaks........ And they didn't want to just check to see if there were problems with the vacuum other places in the system..

Anyway, I need to buy a new one myself, they look like this:

And are pretty cheap used on ebay.

How hard are they to fit?? Anyone got a DIY?

Cheers.

ALSO: They said that the pump would keep on pumping even with the leaking locked sealed off, as the electronics for that door still would indicate that it wasn't locked or opened or w/e.. Is this true? How could it keep on pumping if it creates the vacuum it needs?

They're quite easy to fit when all is said and done, but frustrations run high.

I've just done all 4 doors :) A very quick run down went something like (the haynes manual is fairly good for the info):

Remove all the interior trim from the door, including the protecting poythene/foam.
Remove the exterior door handle.
Remove the old vacuum pump/lock (3 star bolts on the lip of the door, below the one that holds the handle on).
Re-Use the rods from the old pump/lock.
You may have to un-bolt part of the window holding mechanism (a large brace with 2 bolts, one at top of the door one at the bottom) to get the pump into position.
Getting the pump into its place is the hardest part (you may wish to wear hand protection depending on how sharp your door edges are - old doors from the '97 nice and soft - replacement doors from a '94 somewhat sharp)
Once you have it in place (worst part getting the push-pin interior locks rod up the hole of the door) just bolt in, hook up the pipes/cables, bolt in the exterior door handle, re-fit the trim, etc etc etc.

Chief :)

Thanks chief. I'll find a mechanic who has a smoke machine to check for additional leaks. If it's just the one, I'll fix it. :)
