Anyone handy with VCDS/VAGCOM?
« on: 13 May 2013, 23:34 »
I'm having real trouble getting the sh!tty f**king thing to work with my car. I'm using one of these cables (pretty much):

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAGCOM-USB-KKL-409-1-Cable-For-Volkswagen-AUDI-OBD2-OBDII-Car-Diagnostic-Scanner-/390568179862?pt=UK_Diagnostic_Tools_Equipment&hash=item5aefad7896

with both Ross-Tech versions 409.1 and 11.11.3 and I simply cannot get it to work. I've set the COM port to 2 and 3 (on both system settings and the VCDS program) and tried them respectively, with no luck at all. Ignition off, ignition on, every USB port on my laptop, plug cable in first then open the program, open the program first then plug cable in blah blah blah pretty much EVERY combination and it just won't work!!!!!!

It comes up saying Port: OK! and Interface: Not found! every time.....

Which OS does your computer run? OSX or Windows? Which version of Windows?

Windows XP, but I'm very tempted to wipe it and get W7 on there. I've had it working once before (about a year ago) but I think that was pure luck!

I also had endless issues with it until I followed all of those steps.

Oh and VAGCOM only works with XP, so if you want to run it, Win7 isn't going to help.

Eh?
I have it working on 64 bit Win 7, with no problems.

VAGCOM only works with XP, VCDS probably works with 7 (VCDS is just the newer VAGCOM). Bonus info: It is possible to run VAGCOM on windows 7 by emulating an XP desktop (through Windows Virtual PC and Windows XP Mode - both Microsoft software). This is what I do with my perhaps slightly illegal and very outdated copy of VAGCOM (it can delete codes and perform calibrations compared to free VCDS which does none of that) :)

And the interface not found is probably a driver issue, I guess?

I've specified the FTDI drivers when the prompt comes up after plugging the cable in (chip in the cable is FT232BM FTDI chip) but VCDS still isn't playing ball.
