Beam bushes puller?
« on: 13 May 2013, 14:24 »
Right going to be changing the ream beam bushes soon. Taking them out iw ill not have a problem, But putting the new ones in, surely they will be a problem then  :lipsrsealed:

I have seen this video; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MIwScrc5DfA

I now know it can be done this way.

I have seen this for sale: http://www.justoffbase.co.uk/Bush-Removal-Adaptor-Set-VW-Golf-MkIII-Sealey-VSE127H01

Should i buy this? The MK3 rear bushes are funny shape as they curve at one end, or do i just adapt the style used in video above where he uses nuts to compensate the curve?  :smug:

I did have a garage who was going to do them at £50 a side, sadly he's closed down. so have to try doing them myself.

Or if anyone knows who would take on this job, please do let me know, coz tbh i dont fancy doing it myself.

Is it best to tight the bolts once the car is on the ground, so the bush can settle in it's place, as I've read that if tightend when in air, and when car is on ground, bush can twist especially for lowered cars?

when the wheels are back on you can't get to the bolts.... mine was reconnected to the suspension before final tightening of the bolts (basically the axle wasn't dropped down)

Sealey do a tool, was looking in their catalogue today. As for tightening up, its best to tighten when sitting flat or use a trolley jack to jack the axle up to roughly the right place with the car in the air

The VW vortex thread was  invaluable to me when I did the rear bushes on my last mk3, from that I was able to fabricate a very effective bush fitting tool and able to carry out the entire task without hitch.
