Door seals
« on: 11 May 2013, 13:51 »
I've just discovered my rear drivers side door is letting water in. It looks as though its collecting in the inner seal and allowing it to flow over the sill trim and into the car. I've done a search but does anyone have a solution for this?
If the water collects here could you just put a hole through to allow it to drain, I realise it will be 'pinched' when the door is shut but after a quick look I can't really see anything wrong with them. Cheers

I recollect a thread a while ago where someone with wind noise had new door seals fitted under warranty that fixed the problem. Could try new door seal. I had hinge bolts replaced under warranty because they were working loose but did not have a leak.
Mk6 GTI Carbon Grey, 2010 Bluetooth and voice fitted, a few VCDS mods still a comfortable family car. Red Scirocco 2011 twin charger stage 1 - enjoyable drive now gone.  White 2016 Polo GTI (roller skate on steroids) replaced with an Indium Grey 2019 7.5 GTI PP.

Hi,
If your car is a three door, there is a Technical product information sheet that may be related to this, 2012916/5.
It refers to a possible fault in the window flanges causing incorrect bonding of the side windows.

Best Regards.

A common problem with older VAG cars is the seal of the inner metal door panel. The one that the window regulator is fixed to. Water will get through the seal and run out behind the door card, over the cill and into the footwells. Mk6's have the same arrangement, so it could be the same problem.

With the door open, run a hose down the outside of the window. Water will pass the outer window scraper and into the door, but it should drain out through holes in the bottom and run over the outer cill. Make sure it is running from the drain holes and not out from behind the door card.

You can replace the seal, or for a simple fix, take off the door car, slacken off the panels retaining bolts, squirt in a bead of silicone round the bottom half on the panel and re-tighten the bolts and re-fit the door card.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Just to give a semi update. Had a call from the garage, Dubber appears to be correct. However the mechanic has told me it doesn't seem to be a metal panel but some sort of plastic. He doesn't sound too impressed with the quality of it!!
Once it's all sorted I'll post up the complete findings. Thanks for the replies
