Update time.................

Went to yet another garage today, although not a "VW specialist". The guy said it's definitely not the CV joints (3rd mechanic in a row), and instead thought something might be rubbing.....He had a look and reckons that the front left wheel is rubbing on the gearbox when turning (there is a big rub mark on gearbox and inner wing), so I guess I will have to get some smaller wheels...........At the moment, it's lowered on 17s, which according to this guy is the root of my problems....In my defence, it's how I bought the car, only had it a couple of months.

Should I look out for 14s or 15s? I was thinking that 14s would be too small but keep seeing those P Slots on ebay......

Go for 15"*7J  with 185/50/15 or 185/45/15 rubber.

... it's turned into a fashion show for poofters.

In my experience said "experts" arnt to be trusted. Ask them why they are experts? Do they have a degree in V-dubs or something. If you want something done right do it yourself!

To check your CV you will need to pull that boot back and have a look inside. Wipe away all the grease and look for damage or ware. Check by hand for excessive play in the movement. At the end of the day though the only way to check for sure would be to replace it.
