Place your bets..... Poorly Golf :(
« on: 06 August 2005, 01:33 »
Was gunning it in my Mk4 T Golf (150 re-mapped to 202bhp on Monday), then drove slow (easy revs) for 1/2 a mile & pulled up at some traffic lights.

I then pulled off, tried to floor it & I got a complete lack of power along with a rather loud & disturbing 'hissing' noise, every time i depressed the throttle.

Now every time I plant my foot, the car makes this noise & it will only go to 4k revs, tops. (Only did this a couple of times, in case I did anymore damage).

Can anybody hazard a guess at what I've done???

Thanks,

Keith

ps I had to have the diverter valve changed last week, which was making a noise when I did the opposite; ie. the noise (a slightly different noise to the one stated above) was happening when I was lifting off.

okay.. very worst case is that you've killed your turbo.. but it doesnt sound like that to me !

i'd say the extra boost from your remap has caused an already loose boost hose to pop off, or partially pop off. now in my experience it's usually the hoses to the intercooler that are the weak point in the chain, but check all visible hoses before you start taking things apart to check.

helped a guy out with a similar problem around this time last year, check it out here

hope that helps !

another thought... you've possibly been kicked into limp mode, disconnect the battery for half hour and see if that cures it.. if it does, take it back to jabba, they should stop it from happening again !

Cheers for the help, Toph.

My car's actually gone back to the stealer's, now. (I've got VW Assistance & warranty that came with the car).

The 'Assistance tech' that came out this morning, had a fiddle with the clips by the intercooler (the hissing does seem to be coming from that OSF wheel arch) but reckons 90% it might be the valve that I had changed a week last thursday. (Said it seems like too much of a coincidence to him).

He asked if I've had it chipped or anything, I obviously kept quiet because of Warranty issues etc, but I fear he might suspect something's up???   :lipsrsealed:

His laptop didn't show up any faults though!

Jabba were supposed to be in today, but they're answer machine was on all morning.

If he did notice, he didn't say anything!  :lipsrsealed:

He did phone the VW garage from his Van, when he was following me in my car to the garage, so who knows what he told them, then??!!  :shifty:
