GTD Fuel Consumption and Co Figures

Hi all, just noticed a weird anomaly on the data for the GTD (see below)

Why is it that for a manual car, the Fuel consumption and Co figures remain the same whether it's a 3 door or 5 door,  but on the DSG models, the addition of 2 rear doors takes nearly 3 mpg and increases the Co by 3 g/km ?

Surely if the 5 door was heavier, the manual figures would be different as well ?

Well spotted Mr Eagle Eye. I noticed this too. It can't be a mistake as the road tax band backs those figures up. If you look in the latest price list it says:

GTD Manual 3 Door - VED Band B, 109 Co2 g/km, £20
GTD Manual 5 Door - VED Band B, 109 Co2 g/km, £20

GTD DSG 3 Door - VED Band C, 119 Co2 g/km, £30
GTD DSG 5 Door - VED Band D, 122 Co2 g/km, £105

What you've pointed out it seems very strange as the 5 door manual doesn't push out more Co2 or use any more fuel - but in DSG guise it does.

I'm just glad I've slipped into VED Band C as its quite a saving, £0 first year and then only £30 per year for such a powerful car seems hard to believe.

I aked VW this about 3 weeks ago as it will affect my Dad. His and my GTDs are identical except his is DSG and he'll be paying £85 a year more road tax than me. They didn't know, but the higher consumption ties in with the higher CO2 rating, so it doesn't appear to be a typo.

The back doors are thirsty with DSG, I haven't figured out why and neither has VW UK. Maybe the back doors have their own climate control system built into them with DSG

My MK6 Golf is the lowest spec you could buy with the old 80hp 1.4  and it's road tax is higher than my new 230hp GTI

It's not that the road tax on mine will be £75 higher than the 3 door, as in the grand scheme of things, it's a tank full of diesel a year, it's just that I don't' understand why the 5 door's figures are different. Unless when they were testing it they had the rear doors wide open like an air brake and that increased drag and therefore fuel consumption

Only real reason I could see for it would be perhaps a few gear ratio changes in the DSG box on a 5 door model - but that seems crazy.

There aren't many cars in the VW range that are available in both 3 doors and 5 doors, but on the Polo there are no 3/5 door CO2/economy figure differences at all. Funnily enough though, a 90PS 1.6TDI Polo has a higher CO2 output than a manual GTD (presumably due to losing 6th gear economy).
