Bora 110 TDI MPG??
« on: 05 May 2013, 22:35 »
Hi all after a bit of info about my car and its MPG which i'm sure is not right, its been serviced on time all its life ive changed the coolant temp sender (faulty) and stat and used injector cleaner thinking this may be the reason for what i think is poor mpg but not made any difference,on a run (2hrs) its telling me i'm getting 44mpg and it stays the same pottering about, ive spent the last 2 weeks driving like miss daisy trying to up the mpg and its gone up from 42mpg.
Is there anything else i should consider or is that about right thanks in advance,Chambo

Have a good scout around the engine bay and check for any loose fitting hoses/clamps. You have want to check the fuel filter and oil filter.

Have you ever serviced it? Or recently bought with stamps in the book?

to be fair, my one only ever averaged 50ish on a good run before i played with it.check for signs of boost leaks, excessive black smoke ehen booting it, also another thing to check will be your fuel timing cloud. this can be checked on vag com.
does it feel fairly nippy in general, or does it feel like it could have mor go in there?
i think i love you.....

Thanks Dan?scarr,
Ive not serviced it yet myself just bought it with the book all stamped up i know this dont mean much as they can easily be fake stamps, also checked all round for leaks and done a boost leak check, took the EGR valve out tonight and that is not too bad really just a small amount of carbon, booted the sh!t out of it to clear it out and its clear nothing came out,
Dan it feels like there should be a bit more than its giving me speed wise, fuel timing?? have to look into that, never heard of it.Next thing ill do it clean injectors with comma diesel magic ive done a bit of research and folks seem pretty impressed with it,anyway thanks again chaps.

i meant the fuel timing. its run off the cam belt so if the belts been done recently but not set up spot on it can cause issues. there is a section on vcds that plots something called a timing cloud. also check that the turbo actuator is opening and closing properly, they can stick causing limp mode but i guess its possible that its stuck not fully open or something
