I just hope they're not Continentals as the ones on my MK6 are terrible in the wet but on the plus side they never wear down (as mentioned above). Ok for a less sporting model, but not ideal on a GTI.

Infesting people's different experiences. I can only comment on what I've had and Bridgestones were very good, the Dunlops I had on my mk 5 GTI were shocking - noisy and went through them very quickly. Continentals were decent as well.

Looking at the mytyres website the pirelli p7 blue comes out near the top but it's not a sport tyre. Dunlop sport maxx rt I'd one of the better ones. interestingly Michelin, continental and bridgestone are nowhere near.

Really? I've never had a problem with my Continentals on either cars... But then again judging by all the comments on here so far, we all have differing opinions (all good for a healthy debate). I agree It's probably not the most extreme UHP tyre on the market, but then again I think its a pretty good all rounder for everyday use.

I'd love to get the same Pirelli tyres as on the current Scirocco I have. Superb in the wet or dry, really quiet and lasts ages. Currently on 18k miles and still have 5mm on the front. Oh, and they are sef sealing as well.

Very much doubt it, although the wife has Dunlops I found out today on her Polo SEL with the factory 17" Boavista alloys, and they are quiet, long lasting and according to her at least, great in the wet. Guess well have to see ?

Admittedly I've not given this any consideration as I have a set of BBSs that I'm likely going to run on the mk7.
The BBSs have Contis on and I like the tyres (as tyres go, they're round and black and I get no end of stick from females cos I put tyre black on them!!) but the Swastika Monzas or Austins or whatever they're called look very easy to clean so I may stick with them.

Anyone care to photoshop 10mm spacers onto an Austin equipped GTI?

Anyway, I'm not that bothered what tyres the car comes with, I'm sure they all meet some VW standards and the Contis are noisy.

I can't remember what where originally on my Mk5, but I have used the Continental Sport Contact range for years now, and never had a problem with them.

My MK5 Golf GT Sport TDI170 on 17" wheels came with Bridgestone Potenzas which were great in the dry but poor in the wet and very hard wearing. I only kept that car for 18k miles but there was still loads of wear left on them. "Tramping" of the wheels taking off from a busy roundabout was quite a hazard, but unsure whether the car or the tyres were to blame.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Definitely the car. My scirocco just can't put the power down through the front tyres and I often suffer from 'tramping'. Lets hope the new 'Anti-Tramping' tech solves this on the new GTD/GTI.

BTW I had Dunlop SP Sport 07's on my Scirocco (from factory) and I got an absurd amount miles out of them. Think I got 30k out of them before I felt the need to change (i used to rotate regular). They still had 3mm on them but I was starting to lose a lot of grip and switched to a new set (for safety's sake).

I've now got Avon ZZ5's on the front. Very good tyre. Quiet and great in wet or dry conditions. I know they seem like budget tyres but I can seriously recommend them if you don't want to splash the cash. Lots of other folk on the Scirocco forums have switched to them with no regrets.

Yeah there's definitely a lot of "budget" middle of the range tyres out that don't cost the earth but still offer decent levels of performance... The Avons being one of them, but I've also found the Toyo Proxes & Falkens 452's equally as good.
