Tyres

What tyres are you hoping for on your new GTI/GTD? Personally, I'm hoping its anything but Dunlops - awful tyre and shockingly poor grip. I'm keeping my fingers crossed my GTI comes with some Bridgestones.

Unfortunately it will be Dunlop's as they seem to be the tyre of choice at the moment for VW. The dunlops will be fine and certainly better than Bridgestone!

Dunlops are sh!te, give me Pirellis or Continentals every time. Michelin are my preference, but i've never seen a VAG car with those supplied from the factory.

3 tyres with sidewall bulges from the most minor of pothole bumps in the 1st winter of ownership with my Dunlop Sport Maxx shod 1st Roc. If the new car comes with Dunlops you can bet your life that you'll be replacing those front 2 for tyre damage long before they've had a chance to wear out. If you get a wrecked Dunlop, don't get a replacement Dunlop, replace the pair with another make or you'll be throwing good money after bad (and keep the undamaged Dunlop as a spare for the rears). No issues like that with the newer Roc which came with Pirelli P7s.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

I would like Michelins also. But likewise have never seen these on a vag car.

Mine has sport maxx's on and they are shocking in the wet but the best or worst thing about them is they last for ages cos they're so hard! Mine have still got a couple of thousand miles left and they're on 16k now.

My new ED 30 came with Michelins (Pilot Exaltos) as OEM, but I've not seen any recent Golfs with them.

I see Vauxhall have started to use Hankook as OEM tyres on the Astra.

Nothing wrong with the standard Dunlop rt tyres. Pirelli P7s are rubbish and michelins are over rated and expensive. I've got 19” dunlops on my tiguan at the minute and apart from the age of them they are fine. good in the wet and good in the dry. It's horses for courses really as everyone will have a favourite brand. I had continental on my Leon fr and they were brilliant. subsequent continental tyres have been rubbish by all accounts with the conti sport 3 suffering from tyre split.

Tbf though, you've got them on a 4wd car so that'll be doing a lot of the work, lets see if you feel the same when your trying to put 180 horses through the front tyres?

4wd isn't the holy grail of tyres. if the tyres were bad they would be bad no matter. I had bridgestones on the mk5 golf and jetta and they were fine if a little noisy. With the gti/gtd mk7 being new we won't know what its like on tyres until we've driven them. if the dunlops are crap I'll hold my hands up and say so

I'd be quite happy if they came with a set of Continental SportContacts (as what came standard on my Mk6 GTi and funnily enough Focus ST). Failing that a set of Goodyear Asymmetrics of Pirelli P-Zero's wouldn't go amiss.

Does anyone know if the tyres will be different on the standard 18" wheels as opposed to the optional 19" Santiago's? (Apart from tyre size obviously)
