Your 1/2" breaker bar should have a swivel head???
So surely no need for the extension?

Yeah it has, but to apply the force the right way the bar needs to be perpendicular to the socket, and the socket isn't deep enough to reach the hub nut without an extension.

Not done this on a Golf yet but have on many other cars without any trouble, so maybe this will be my Nemesis!

This is why I love my air tools

I almost invested in an electric powered impact gun rated to 450Nm this month, ran out of funds though.

In other news...

SUCCESS!

Managed to get the fecker off by taking the wheel off, sticking the wheel nuts back on, getting my missus to hold the brake on and undid it with the big bastard 1/2" drive bar!
It deflected too much with the extension bar on so I thought I'd try it like that and it worked. I'll remember this method for next time!

I invested in one of those electric impact guns, whipped my hub nuts straight off. Only problem i have is that the splines seem to be welded together and no matter how much i hit them with a large hammer they just wont budge.

It is a lot easier and safer to do it with the wheel on and the car on the ground and getting someone to sit in the car with foot on brake.

Good result with getting it undone  :afro:

I did this very task a few weeks ago you will need a big wrench a 30 mm socket a broom and a very long bar first take the wheel off making sure the car is VERY secure then start the engine and wedge the broom between headrest and brake pedal next trick is to grab the big bar and wrench and place in a way that you are pulling upwards not pushing down (unless you are a big lump) I hope this helps anyone
