Easy geezer.
Not a mechanic but have had similar issues on my 8v. Turned out it was the main oil sensor causing the buzzing and the cutting was due to a goosed sensor under the dizzy cap. Have you tried replacing the dizzy cap or ht leads?

i had that problem on my 16v some time after i bought it. only seemed to happen when it was cold or wet.

i asked the garage if the dizzy cap and ht leads needed replacing. they had a look and found a small crack in the rotor arm which was causing it to short circuit.

replaced everything and had no problems since.

just copied/pasted this as it explains it better than i can...

If there is a spark at the points, check the rotor arm. This is perhaps the most common cause of the engine suddenly going dead. A hairline crack in the rotor arm will gather dirt and allow a short circuit to its spindle. Even new rotor arms die occasionally! A simple diagnosis for rotor arm failure is that there will be a spark from the HT lead from the coil to the cap, but no spark at the spark plug leads. (Though this would also be the case if the distributor cap cracks around the centre HT socket)
