Windsreen cracked
« on: 29 April 2013, 10:54 »
Hi guys

I noticed a lovely crack in my windscreen that runs all the way along the bottom of the screen (the bottom black part, so you cant see it when driving), so it has to be replaced but is safe and legal to drive apparently. Anyway they asked if the glass was green or blue and to me it looked blue (I have a blue GTI) but the lady on the phone said blue was only really fitted to the R32's but if I was sure then she will order a blue one.

Just wanted to see if anyone knew for sure what colour a 2005 MK5 GTI's windscreen is meant to be? Also when they come to replace it, should I look out for anything, make sure they do something specific  ec t as I have the rain sensors, so I want to make sure they don’t mess that up.
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Your 2005 will be blue.

VW changed it to green a few years after production started. Not sure exactly what year it was, 06 or 07 maybe.

Ive had mine replaced and didn't need to do anything. I'm guessing you are going with AutoGlass? They were pretty good when they did mine. If you want to check the rain sensor throw some water over it and test, the only problem might be that they ask you leave the glass alone for a few hours to allow it to fit so he might suggested you don't do that.

Have a word with Gavin when he comes to replace it.

Ok phew, I thought it was blue, the lady on the phone had me worrying ha ha!

No according to Autoglass they are not the approved repairers for my insurance company (Markerstudy) so I had to ring my insurance company directly and arrange it, not sure who will be doing the repair.

Ha ha I think I will wait at least a day before I chuck a bucket of water over the screen.
