ADC setting

I know the ADC incorporates cruise control but can you also set it for the distance you want to stay behind someone or is that pre determined by the car?

This might help explain:

Thanks. I'm still not sure as it goes on about automatic distance control then "You pre-set the speed range which you want the Adaptive Cruise Control to brake and accelerate the car within" nothing about distance you want to keep between you and the car in front or is that "the speed range"?!

Also in the blurb it states "The radar sensor is not capable of detecting stationary obstructions, such as the end of a tailback or crash barriers" yet in the graphic it shows the end of a tailback with the cars barely moving yet the Golf comes to a stop.

While I can't state how a DSG equipped car will behave, I have driven a golf with ADC.  This was only at motorway speeds though, so I can't tell you if the minimum distance it keeps is dependent on the speed you are doing either (i.e. the 2 second rule).

However, yes, when you set the speed, you also set the distance you would like to keep between you and the car in front (like I said, there is a minimum).  Once set, the car will automatically adjust its speed based on what is in front of you.  With a clear road, it will cruise at the speed you set.  If a car pulls in front of you and is slower, the car will automatically slow down to match the speed of the car in front to maintain that distance you set.  If the car in front then speeds up, you will speed up.  Or, if you pull out into an empty lane, it will automatically speed up and overtake.  It's a neat system, and worked well.

If I understand correctly, a DSG car will effectively drive itself in stop-start traffic.

It won't be long now until you can get your car to automatically drive you home from the pub without fear of a drink driving charge. All it needs is park assist to park up when it comes to a stop and an intelligent sat-nav to tell it where to drive you home to.
Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Yes but... with the annoying stop/start system the engine will keep cutting out in heavy stop/go traffic. Once the car's engine has cut out I believe you have to press the 'Resume' button on the steering wheel to re-activate the ADC. Without the annoying stop/start system it would "practically" drive itself with DSG.

Apparently you can't turn off the stop/start system via VAGCOM but there is mention of a button you can press to disengage the system on each journey. From photos and the brochures I can't locate this button.

We shall see how it performs in practice. One of the many things to look forward to

Middle button on the left (not sure if it's on the right on uk cars) deactivates the stop start.

Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

So long as the ignition isn't manually switched off, the drivers seatbelt removed or a door opened, then the Stop/Start system treats the whole of any particular journey as one cycle. Therefore, switching off the Stop/Start using the button that Jimble pointed out above, affects the whole journey from ignition cycle on to off, and vice versa.

So that's where it is on DSG cars. Nice one Jimbo

Interesting info Norbreck. Thanks.

Does that work for keyless entry cars too. From what you've said you would have to unclip your seat belt, open the drivers door and get out of the car for it to recognise an end of journey cycle. Does that sound right?
