VW MK2 2.0L swap questions???
« on: 13 October 2003, 00:29 »
I am pretty sure that millions of ppl already asked this question, but here I am trying to ask it again. Please just answer in short words.

I thinking of swaping 16v 2.0 L engine from Mk3 Golf into my 1992 GTI but I have some questions about the swap.
1) What parts do I need?
2) Does the engine fit easy (DO I need to make any special modification)
3) How long will it take if I will do it in my GARAGE?
4) Will the Supercharger fit?
Well thats pretty much it.
Thank you for answering!!! :)

Not FUnny :P
I dont like nos it kills the engine and I am not a racer I just want my car to have enough power to smoke civics some times, that is pretty much what I am up to.

And if supercharger will not fit than it will not have 170HP in it, then some sh!tty modified civics 92-95 with B20Z engine from CRV and with Honda INTEGRA type R tranny + some sh!tty turbo with 7 PSI would have around 200HP and 185 TQ without VTEC.

If anyone did any swaps or did a research for diff swaps in MK2 please share it, For real all I want to know what is the easyest swap for MK2 with good amount of HP AND TQ in it. And I dont really like welding cuz I want to do the swap in my garage.
And please dont make fun of my questions.
I just got MK2 and I would like ppl to help not make fun of me, I had a civic before I crashed it and I know hell lot about HONDAS engines and how to make honda engine really fast.

1) What parts do I need?
The engine, poss the whole fuel system (is yous a 16 v?)
Does the engine fit easy (DO I need to make any special modification)
Yes, swap the flywheel. Use mk2 16v exhaust manifold and d/p.
How long will it take if I will do it in my GARAGE?
When you say GARAGE, do you mean GARAGE or garage, if you mean garage, how long is a piece of string? ;).
Will the Supercharger fit?
Any thing will fit with time, money and effort. Good luck, Steve.

Mk3 2.0 uses a taller block so won't fit easily into a mk2. Get hold a 2.0L 16v lump out of a corrado or passat, engine code 9A, that is a much easier swap.

I would do like VR6 says and go for the 9A block as its not as tall as the MK3 block and you shouldn't have clearance problems with the bonnet or hassle with getting the exhaust to mate up.

the supercharged G60 limited edition golf had the 16V lump and the G60 charger and was a based on the syncro was a bit of a beast. The supercharger was mounted where the alternator went and the alternator went at the rear of the block.

I've always liked the idea of a turbo technics conversion on a 9A block but i suppose its finding one of the kits in good nick.
