Hi all, help needed!
As i was driving home, the car was missing occasionally, does this quite often (normally when i accelerate i have to really be gentle with the pedal or it will choke a bit) i've put it down to the carb not being 100% set up.
As i was going along the battery light came on (car had stalled as i was driving) wouldnt bump start so i rolled to a halt

The car turned over fine on the key but wouldnt fire. The rev counter then jumped from 1k to 7k back and forth etc... the buzzer for the oil came on, rev counter back and forth etc...
I thought it might be bad Earth, but it all seemed fine, the disttributor cap was dry (thought it miught be damp). Tried again, rev counter bouncing around, then it started!
Drove fine for a few miles, no hesitancy. Then, same thing again. Rev counter jumping all over, car cut out. Wouldnt start again this time, then eventually it did. Ran rough, then stalled. Kept trying, eventually it did go, then i drove it home, fine most of the way, but just as i arrived home, juddering and missing again, stalled at the top of the drive where i then left it.
The way i see it is its one of four things:
1) Distibutor (was making squealing and clicking noises as driving)
2) Ignition module (under ECU cover)
3) Coil
4) Hall sender
There was plenty of fuel in the filter, so i doint think it was fuel related, and because of the rev counter/oil buzzer assume its to do with the electrics?
12 years ago (car was 12/13 yrs old) it had new distributor coil and iginition module so i guess it could be them again?
Car has had new carb, and was recorded at about the correct CO etc...
The distributr timimg was checked recently, and the advance worked as the revs increased etc
The hall sender is part of the distributor yes? Therefore, if it is the hall sender easdier to replace the whole distributor?
Also, the tapping/clicking noises coming from the distributor relevant?
Car is a 1272cc 1988, so has the fully transistorised ignition, not points.
Any help very much appreciated

Not sure where to start!
Thanks
