alternator could be on its way out. can i swap a 2.0 engine alternator straight swap without changing the pulley?i suppose they are bigger?-will i need to swap the bracket?
i've read thatpeople swap vr6 alternators and no need to change pulleys, but can't find anything about 1.8 being replaced by 2.0's.

The 1.8 alt with the built in tensioner can be straight swapped with a bracket from a model with air conditioning and then any VAG alternator can be put on it (re the bolt pattern). You will need the bracket - http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af293/Daniel_Brill-Edwards/My%20Golf%20Mk3%20Build/RIMG0054-6_zps675a5d9c.jpg

Alternator, the 2 bolts to mount the alt to the bracket and a different length belt I tried a couple and found the best is 1038mm - http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af293/Daniel_Brill-Edwards/My%20Golf%20Mk3%20Build/RIMG0064-5_zps734ff750.jpg

I put a 90A from a 2.0 2E into my 1.8 AAM in place of the 70A alternator that had.
Can't see why it would not work the other way round.

Should be a straight fit and all you need to change is the actual attenuator if both car have no aircon, or both have aircon.
