Golf ball design for DSG stick shifter
« on: 25 April 2013, 07:52 »
I feel VW have missed a trick with the design of the DSG stick shifter. While the manual gets the iconic golf ball design, the DSG is generic (barring a bit of red or grey stitching).

Does anybody else feel VW should have made a bespoke golf ball style design for the DSG shifter? After all it is a £1,400 optional extra

Nah, anybody ordering a DSG isn't a proper driver so don't deserve it!

Edition 30 had a golf ball DSG stick.  So, it is possible at any rate.

Now all you gotta do is get hold of one (apparently you can be they aren't cheap) and then find someone who can fit it without screwing everything up.

I agree they should have a special golf ball knob for the GTI DSG.  Its these little things that make it special, and while cost cutting is everything to a large manufacturer I can't imagine this would be adding too many pennies.

EDIT:

Seems like its not such a good idea.

To be honest, I'm glad the DSG stick is different.

The golf ball design looks to me like something you could pick up from Halfords for a fiver!

But if the DSG had the golf ball stick, it'd be OK, right?! ;)

I really like it. Classic GTI.

I remember trying to get an Ed30 one for my mk 6.

It was several hundred for a new one.....

I didn't bother in the end.

No, I'd still dislike it, but I realise I'm probably in the minority!

I don't know, I'm getting a manual and I can't say I'm a massive fan of the golf ball design.  But given 99% of the time I have my hand covering the nob  :lipsrsealed: I'll put up with it!

It's the one thing in the interior that I have to admit I could take or leave.  It's a bit gimmicky, but it sounds like you drive like me with your arm on the rest and hand on the, ahem, knob!  :embarrassed:
