He's got an ABF not a KR though. Oil pick up is the same on the ABF than it is on the 2l 8v, right?

No idea.
Mk2 16v is KR.
Mk3 16v is ABF.
KR has the steel sump, ABF the cast alloy sump.
The KR steel sump fits an ABF. I know this for sure. But the KR has a different oil pump pick up...so if someone fits a KR sump & gasket, they need the matching KR oil pick up pipe...or risk oil starvation.

KR baffled sump is a good mod for a fast road/track ABF...as it's easy to modify a KR sump to add baffles/trapdoors etc...not so easy an ABF sump, and if you thump a KR sump, it doesn't break, it dents.
