Santiago, but I don't £900+ like them.

Funny. Ditto. I think they look mean but at nearly £1,000 you've gotta be kidding!

When I upgraded my alloys on my Scirocco from 17" to 18" Interlagos it only cost me £400 extra. So where do VW get off on charging £965 extra is unbelievable

I posted in another thread what sort of price manufactures pay for wheels and tyres in bulk for the production line. However, it would be interesting to compare the difference in the retail prices of the standard and option wheels and tyres from the parts department or TPS.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I've just done a quick mess about on the German konfigurator and the 19s are about £600 or so dearer than the 18s which makes more sense (and their Pure white is free).
So we're being stiffed on extras but get a better deal on the basic car.

Time to bombard VW UK to get the alloy upgrade discounted?

I like the design of the Santiago, but also wouldn't get them on the grounds of ruining the ride. The standard ones are fine. I also like the standard ones on the GTD, whatever they're called.

I expect wheels will be a differentiator on the 'edition 40'. I wonder what they'll be...

I've opted for the 'Santiago's' only because I fancied a change... The axe head 'Austins' (which still look good IMO) look too similar to my current telephone dial 'Monza's... Sill think I've been ripped off though!!

I like the Nogaros and the Austins.  The 19" wheels are too bitty and too complicated and look like a right pain to clean.

The wheels I really like aren't an option in the UK (but are in Germany, naturally) - the 18" "Rotary" wheels in anthracite:

I slightly prefer the Austins to the Nogaros, but both are good looking standard alloys. I would never get 19" wheels, because of the cost, the crippling ride and their increased likelihood to be damaged by potholes over the 18"ers. For those looking to get 19"ers, I would say that also adding ACC/DCC is essential.

Which is exactly why all the current press cars are riding on the standard 18" wheels.. Hopefully with the ACC the 19"'s won't be that bone shattering.

The Mk 5 was tested on the 17" alloys by the hacks; I had the 18" monzas with no ACC and thought the ride was fine.  I suspect it will be the same this time around.  Its what you get used to.  IMO I'd rather have a slightly harder ride but the car look the nuts with 19" alloys - a small price to pay to look good!

Not in the market for a mk7.....yet, but got 19's with ACC on a mk6 and find the ride fine, not bone shattering at all.

Yes, ride is firmer with more road feel than 18's but can use ACC to soften it a bit (especially over those evil potholes), but also find the 'normal' ACC mode perfectly acceptable.  Fancied a change after two previous gti's with Monza's and glad I did.

I've run a mk6 on standard (non ACC suspension) on 17s (my first mk6 nearly four years ago), quickly upgraded to several sets of 18s (cos I'm a tart) and then a set of 19s which went on my last mk6 for 8 months then this one I've had for a year and a half. There is little difference in ride quality between any of them.
If anything the set I had with Michelin PS3 18" tyres had the worst ride of the lot.

So if the mk7 has allegedly better ride dialled in at the factory than the mk6 then all should be well.
