RADIO CODE?
« on: 22 April 2013, 12:49 »
Gentlemen

I have just bought a 2008 GTI FSI 2.0 turbo, with the SATNAV and RADIO in one unit, but I do not have any radio code info. and I need to disconnect the battery.
Please tell me, will I need a code and if so, how do I get to know what it is?

Thanks

If its the original unit fitted to the car then you won't need the radio code

WRONG
Alas a four digit radio code is needed, as I found out the hard way.

It would seem it wasn't unit that was originally fitted in the car then? A lot of nav units are retrofitted due to the cost, some sellers write the code on the unit itself but unless your unit has then you'll need to take it to a specialist to get it unlocked, this is assuming that you can't find out where the unit came from.
Currently pootling around in our family wagen, a Tiguan SEL 😂

I've recently used www.radio-code.co.uk after changing the battery in my daughters' Corsa. Type in the serial number of the radio, (usually found on the side of the radio), and for £8.99 they send you the code on-line. Cheaper & easier than my local Vauxhall dealer who wanted £30 & the car for a day!

Hope that helps!

I think you can simply ask a VW dealership to give you the code for free?

They need the radio serial number and the chassis number of the car that it was originally fitted to. No good if it's been retro fitted.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I tried that with my outgoing RCD310, but they said it had to be fitted to the car to access the code!
