Mk3 Stalling, Help!
« on: 21 April 2013, 08:05 »
Every so often, as I pull up to a junction, lights etc my car will stall.

Not all the time, it seems to pick its moments. It'll fire back up again straight away but it does get a little frustrating when it happens.

Any ideas why this may be happening?

I've been told that it maybe something to do the the Breather pipe. The old one was replaced by the previous owner & a new one fitted.

It was suggested I take one end of the pipe to see if it runs any better.

Any help & suggestions would be great.

Hi bud, just seen your thread about stalling.A good start would probably to give the throttle body a clean up as they do get gunged up over time.I bought some Wynns Throttle Body cleaner from Halfords and gave mine a good clean,it was full of crap. Also do you get a flashing oil light when it stalls.??

What year is car, what engine 8V or 16V and what's engine code, if it's an 8V they are 3 different types?

which engine code is it?

2E are notorious.... if you got one of them then start with cleaning the idle valve (cigar shaped thing on top of the rocker cover) and checking it for correct function. TB clean (can do with brake cleaner) is never bad idea but on my 2E I never had any issues with that tbh.

probably not the breather hose. However, take it off anyway and spray tb cleaner into both ends as well.

Thanks, I'll get some tomorrow as I'd intended to pop over to Halfords.

No, the oil light doesn't come on (not that I've seen anyway) just seems to stall every now & again.

The car is an 8v. Not sure of the engine code, I'll have to check & get back to you.

Thanks for the info. I'll check the engine code & if its the same as yours, I'll do what you recommend.
