Hello,
I don't think i'm even an amateur photographer but it's something I've got into during the past couple of months.
Here are some shots I've recently done, regarding these have been taken with a regular 10 mp camera
This is a vertorama taken whilst it was very windy, so there is a problem with the picture(sorry about my car on the bottom left) -

Thought this would make a good photo, I'm sorry about the wrong date -

any idea what settings your camera was on. most of them are either over or under exposed.

I think it was the auto function on some of them, so the exposure was automatic. I should of used the exposure setting, that was a mistake of mine. It's just a bog standard digital camera. I did put them into photoshop and use the curves adjustment on them, perhaps i over contrasted them aswell

download adobe lightroom. free trial for 30 days. There might be a moody code on you tube for it too
you can sort everything out in there very easily.

As good as Photoshop and Lightroom are, they can't work with what's not there. IE if the photo is overexposed or underexposed, then the data will have been lost and no amount of tweeking in PS or LR will get it back.
When you say "bog standard digital camera", do you mean a compact digital camera ?
Try reading this (it's quite long but decent) about making the most of your compact camera:
