Fixed-window goes down, but not up..but will stay up(almost all the way) by hand

Just get a mechanism why half job it if it snaps and your window drops your screwed and you will have to use something to hold it up

it wont snap. the worst thing that will happen is the cable tie will break and I will be back to square one. I will be taking the car for a mot at the end of june. if it passes then i will fix it properly. car might fail on emissions so will see. (although i am aware that catless golfs are quite common...but lets not go there

Well I have decided to take apart the other door where the window was not working when I bought the car. The lady who sold it to me told me that the car had been broken into and the garage that fixed it stated that the mechanism was too costly to replace etc...apparently she had done this through insurance. I've taken a few photos of the "professional removal" of the insulating material-you can judge for  yourself. Anyways the mechanism works as the motor is ok and the tension wire is fine...but the mechanism will not go down far enough for me to unscrew the window...I inspected it as closely as possible and found that there is a wire in the middle of the windowsill from the inside which I am unsure if it should be there...I have taken a photo of it close up and from further away. I was just wondering if it is safe to remove this and then try to fix the window mechanism..I have a feeling that the problem was that they tried to break into the golf and busted the clip just as I did by putting minimal pressure on it..

I don't know why the garage repaired the mechanism as they did...and that the previous owner was happy with the repair..
Please look at the flickr photos and I am hoping I can get some advice on whether I should remove the wire in the windowsill to take a closer look.

ok finally figured out that the wire was somehow put in to stop the window from going down. how they got this wire in is beyond me, and i can't get it out as am afraid to break the window. is there any way to safely remove the black strip of plastic at the bottom of the window on the outside without damaging it an is it easy to replace ?

kind of sucks that the repair was done this way as very difficult to get to this wire and i fear impossible to remove without a high risk of breaking the window. any ideas?

it took two hours to remove the wire hook very slowly and then i glued the various plastic pieces of the window mechanism back together. success!. although i imagine it is easier to just replace the whole door. how they got that hook in was difficult and they must of told the previous owner it was unfixable...now can finally enjoy the warm weather and no more complaints from my passengers. YAY!
