I would also choose a heated front windscreen in an instant.

The rear one is heated, but that's not as important as the front one, I find, because more often than not I'm going forward in a car!

It seems a very odd omission.

Is the VW screen the same as the Ford ones?
I found in the sun I could see all the wires in the screen and it was like looking through a grid.
If it is then I would do without.

I found the wires (on a Mini) quite noticeable when I first got the car, but after a while, I stopped seeing them.

A small price to pay for the added convenience, IMHO.

No, that's the beauty of the VW one if we ever get it, unlike the Ford Quickclear windscreens which rely on very thin heating wires embedded in between the 2 glass laminates, on the VW the whole of the transparent laminate itself is electrically charged so not only clears the whole windscreen but no wires at all.

Like everyone else has said, if available, this would be the first item on the shopping list for me.

Who are they asking?? Based on the replies on this thread nearly everyone would spec it! I know I would, is the best (only) thing about a having Ford!!

+1 on that, I had it on a Mondeo estate (dog car) and it was ace!

Perhaps we should start a Facebook group "VW Bring Heated Windscreen To GTI/GTD lololololol".

Here's a reply I got today from VW:

Quote
Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding the availability of the option of a heated screen in the Volkswagen Golf Mk7. Please accept my apologies for the delay in our response.

I am delighted to learn of your interest in Volkswagen and particularly the Golf 7. At the moment, we currently have no official
date to confirm when the option will become available. However, we expect confirmation if this will be available around the end
of May 2013.

Gotta' be honest, I know it sounds petty, but I am tempted to cancel my order and wait to see if this option becomes available.  If it doesn't, fair enough, but if it was getting built and then it became an option, I'd be a bit annoyed! lol  Grrrr...!

So, the response you got today is totally different from the one I got yesterday.  Do the different parts of VW UK actually talk to one another?  Or do they just make things up?

I must admit, in addition to writing to them, I've called twice previously.  Each time, a different person has spoken to sales/marketing for me, and each time the response was along the lines of "it is current under consideration for the UK market, but can't say if/when it will be available".  Who knows eh?!

The heated screen is one of the options I am going to miss on my Focus ST. It's totally brilliant in icy weather, just press the button and a few minutes later, voila! a defrosted screen. Never needed to carry a de-icer
