Wheres this go ? Picture
« on: 15 April 2013, 19:55 »
Took the rubber surround of the petrol filler to clean and check for rot and found this stray wire (between the pipe top left and filler bottom right in picture) going to nothing.

It has a femal connector on the end and looks original,my guess is it's an earth but I can't see anywhere for it to connect ,cars a late 92 8 valve if that makes any difference
Any ideas !

looks like there is a metal clap around the tank neck that one end fits to - but can't see where the end goes but I would assume the body at some point..

Its an anti static "Ground" for the filler neck, these would fall off after the car was less than ten years old, so really wouldn't lose any sleep over it... OTT attempt at eliminating a spark while filling up with fuel, and you've already grounded the car when you pull the filler flap open...

seeing as there is no rot there now, please please take my advice and protect it whilst you can as one day it will happen. Recommend underbody sealer.

First thing I did when I got the car 5 years ago was steam clean chassis and arches and put it on a ramp and waxoyl it and I was shocked just how solid it was I have redone it again at the beginning of the year just to keep on top of it. I regularly hose under the arches to get any mud out even got the hammerit and waxoyle under the front scuttle just to be sure ,rot is the one thing that scares me about my car but touch wood I'm keeping it at bay....... this is my car when I first got her getting  the waxoyl treatment

GOOD MAN!!!! Its great to see that your taking care of her.
The way I look at it is mechanical is mechanical and can always be repaired but bodywork and corrosion protection is most important when either buying or maintaining a vehicle as if the engine goes, oh well it can be repaired but corrosion can end up being the end of the beasts life  that's just too soul destroying!

Love the pic of the motor she looks gorgeous and im assuming you are a mechanic yourself by the use of a workshop?
Guessing its a 16v by the pics - fair play! If you are keyed up on these motors have you any input for the thread I posted yesterday about running rough when getting warm?
Thanks fellow dubber.

No no I'm not not a mechanic I'm hgv driver but have always tinkered with cars bikes. I asked my mate who is a sprayer for a price to underseal it and he said I could use his ramp and do it myself
Thanks for your comments about my car she gets very much pampered but is my daily and gets used every day so deserves it I think. It's not a 16 valve but a very late k plate 8 valve digi with all the 16 valve runout options as standard hence the back lights that misguided you lol
I have had a read of your idling issue but I've never had a 16 k jet so would be guessing so I can't help you I'm afraid but there's plenty of k jet gurus on here
