Wheel Corrosion Warranty
« on: 14 April 2013, 20:27 »
Hi All,

Just wondering if there is anyone who can offer advice. I have a bit of white worm starting to appear on all 4 wheels, so took the car to the dealers and they have agreed to replace 1 wheel (Rear Left) only and all 4 centre caps. They said they could nothing about the other 3 as there are wheel nut marks/scratches and VW would reject the wheels if sent back. I think the dealer has been stunk by VW before and left to pay for them from the things they were saying to me.

Just afternoon what people would do, I think I should get both rear alloys replaced at least and all 4 ideally. Is there anyway I can go to VW uk with pics and get the agreement.

here are some pics, what do people think?

I had an issue with my scirocco and the 'wheel damage' part of the warranty claims is for kerbing etc plus the fact that any damage around the bolt holes has surely been caused by VW technicians  and not you?

I would write to VW UK and take it up directly with them including all of the pics etc. I'd also send them some of them on the car when clean and say that "as you can see its ruining the appearance of perfect car" etc etc! Just my two penneth.

Agree with the above.

Get them to change your centre caps whilst they are at it - the new ones apparantly have a new coating on them to prevent/minimise white worm.

PS What are you using to clean the wheels as this can impact on the corrosion

My thoughts exactly - if he's using the very strong cleaners they will eventually damage the finish and allow corrosion to start. Washing with normal car shampoo should be sufficient then seal with a high quality wheel wax. Having said all that I got some white worm on one of the Monza's on my previous GTI, and I was very careful about cleaning and sealing them. Got it replaced under warranty. I also agree that it doesn't appear to be anything to do with scratches from wheel nuts.

Yeah think they're trying to pull a fast one about the (non existent) wheel nut scratches.

I recently had two further wheels replaced under warranty due to white worm. One of these wheels had two scuff marks which I believe had been inflicted during a service by the technicians.

When I took her down for inspection the scuffing was only remarked upon by me, the warranty manager was only interested in the white worm. Both wheels were replaced and are awaiting fitting.

It is clear to me that all 4 of your wheels need replacing. I would continue until this happens.
If you read my thread ( http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=249693.0 ) you will see that inspection of the replacement wheels before fitting is required to make certain they are in perfect condition.
Best of luck. Persevere

I have 3 wheels that have white worm similar to the above but VW won't do anything about it as its outside the 3 year warranty, not only that but when I bought the car last September one of the wheels needed refurbishing, they agreed to do this and the cheeky buggers painted instead I have just found out now having to change a tyre, serves me right for not checking when picking it up!
