Fob Boot Unlocking
« on: 12 April 2013, 17:37 »
I'm not sure whether this is just a quirk of the car or whether something's wrong, I'm tempted to go with the latter.

Got home today, locked the car and took a load of shopping in. Came back out, pressed the boot only unlock button on the fob, boot popped up, took out shopping, closed boot. The catch made the noise it always has (like it's locking).

Then, I'm not sure why, but I checked it was locked, pushedthe VW badge in and to my surprise the boot opened and the alarm went off

So I tried again, unlocked the car, re-locked, then opened the boot with the boot only button. Closed, catch noise, then I walked around the car checking all the doors, waited one minute, tried to open the boot, same thing. It opened and the alarm went off.

I think it's probably not supposed to do that, it should stay locked like every other car I've had with this feature. Can someone confirm before it goes back to be sorted? I dread to think how many times I've left the boot unlocked in car parks becuase of this!  :undecided:

You are quite right. Pressing the boot unlock button should unlock just the boot and disarm the alarm, then closing the boot should automatically re-lock the boot and arm the alarm.

Does your boot lock when you lock the car in the normal way?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Thanks for checking guys.

It does lock fine when I press the 'lock' button. Something going wrong when it's closing by the sounds of it. Funnily enough the last couple of weeks I've had an annoying rattle from the back somewhere, may well be related.

Will report back next week. Cheers!

So this is a bit embarrassing...the dealer, after investigating themselves for an hour found that this is a quirk of later MK.6's. the reson is that if you shut your boot and have dropped your keys in you have chance to retrieve them. Apparently it locks after approximately 1 minute...and even says it in my book

Oops. The dealer did investigate another issue that was rectified though. However, in doing so they've scratched my pristine alloy  thankfully they've agreed a repair...the repair better be unnoticeable.

Yeah, mine does the same as yours and is a 62 plate.  As you say, it's in the manual
