Just got a call to say my car is ready, five days earlier than first told. It's amazing what Facebook and Twitter comments on VW UKs pages can do!
They fitted a new engine, I'm guessing I will need to get the engine number and inform DVLA?

After investigating VW have concluded that the water pump failure is a one-off incident as they have had no other reports of it happening before despite me mentioning the various reports of failures on this forum and other forums over the world. I suppose I never expected them to admit it anyway :lipsrsealed:

They have offered a 1 year extension to my warranty, engine gearbox etc.

I would push for two years on the new engine and gearbox like all other fitted VW parts.
