RAC TRAKKER
« on: 03 August 2005, 10:13 »
As this is linked to the RAC and Police are able to use it, can they tell how fast you drive? I want security but I don't want big brother watching me.

Anyone else has an idea on this?

No, it doesn't work like that. Your car only appears on their system when the system is triggered.

Police get an indicator arrow (in terms ofd the direction your car is) and a strength signal (which tells them how close they are), so they have no way of telling how fast you are travelling.

There would be too many cars to watch etc if they could , and I may be sceptical here but I'm sure if they wanted to know they could find out as the technology is probably already in place. :undecided:  I'd also say even if they can it would be hard to prosecute due to civil liberties and all that as I guess, just like speed cameras, they would have to inform people that they can do that. It's looking more and more like George Orwell was spot on all those years ago.
......now officially dubless.

Ive heard stories of the technology being in place already but not used. I think they could use them little green or blue cameras mounted by the side of the road or on bridges to record your plate as you pass each one, they then work out an average speed over a calculated distance. That way slowing down when you see a camera aint gonna do any good. Scary! Hopefully they will never use them for this. How boring would driving be if it was like that!

Those are specific cameras called SPECS (SPeed Snforement Camera System). These are only in specific locations.

Not to be confused with the traffic cameras that you see at the side of the road everywhere.

Part of the outrage surrounding the proposed charging scheme per mile for car use was that every car would need to be fitted with a GPS transmitter, which would allow government/A.N/.Other body to constantly calculate average speeds, so your fines would turn up allow ith your road0use charge.

I wouldn't panic, I can't see it happening within the next 20 years, if at all.

I know a bit about this stuff for once!!!

The RAC trackstar is a private sattelite gps location system and is not big brotherised unless you want it to be i.e. company fleet etc.

The Tracker Tracker is the one the police cars use the arrowed signal meter for also in helicopters.

The blue and green double cameras at the side of the road and on motorway bridges are for Trafficmaster alert systems.

The SPECS ones take your average speed

The white sqaures on the road are for VASCAR the video speed machiney thing!!

Worry more about the mobile phone in your pocket mate  and the satellites above your head
