Difference between old and new GTD engine

Anyone know? Or is this actually the same engine with a different map?

Good question ROO I'd like to know too.

I'm hoping its heavily revised as opposed to a remap. In order to shave the alleged 100kg off the weight of the Mk7 you'd think the engine would be one of the first things on the engineers table to redesign.

Current: BMW M140i / ZF8 / 5 DR
Past: MK7 GTI / DSG / WHITE / 5 DR

An Audi dealer did tell me the 184 engine is just a remapped 150 engine...

Generally the differences between the power outputs are the turbo's along with a couple of other bits and bobs. That certainly applied to MK4-MK6 Golfs  :nerd:

Between the 140CR 2.0TDI and 170CR 2.0TDI there were turbo, injector and cam differences. I hope the 184PS engine is more than just a remapped 150, otherwise we'll all be suffering the mediocre fuel economy being reported on the MK7 GT TDI150 - many people there are seeing worse economy than they had on their MK5/6 Golf TDIs.

These reports about terrible fuel economy on the 150PS TDI sound worrying.

Could you post some links to where you've read about this.

Give me something else to fret about  :laugh:

Diesels often take a few weeks/months to settle with their economy though don't they? The engine becomes more economical after its been driven for a while.

On my first drive (home from the dealership) with my 170TDI Scirocco on a 16 mile journey I got 53mpg! I admit is was a little more serene than most journeys. I found that the economy hasn't improved much with bedding in but the performance has. I found that on the 170, the engine seemed like it had been artificially retarded during the first 500 miles, it seemed really tight compared to the previous one (140TDI Scirocco), I was really disappointed, it seemed no more powerful than the 140. 500 miles passed and then almost as if a switch had been flicked at 500 miles it was like a whole different engine. Maybe the car was performing a "running in" program before it lets you put your foot down? Seems ridiculous I know, but the difference was not gradual, it was pretty much instantaneous.

Poor fuel economy has been discuss frequently on the VWAudi forum and a few other places. "Honest John" website is logging true mpg vs claimed and most 150PS GT owners are seeing less than 50mpg right now. In my experience I have seen a 5% difference between summer and winter mpgs on TDIs.

If there are differences between fuel consumption between the Mk6-7 diesels, I would be surprised. I thought fuel consumption and emissions went pretty much hand in hand.

My Mk6 140 TDI does a mathematically worked out 57mpg over a full tank and costs £100 a year to tax. From what I understand, the new 150 TDI costs £20 to tax, so I would expect it's fuel consumption to be better.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
