Central locking not working
« on: 10 April 2013, 15:27 »
Okay so some of you may have read my previous post where I realized that I actually had central locking anyway, buy regardless decided to continue installing the aftermarket kit, as the original central locking wasn't working..

After doing the front doors, I took off the door panels on the rear doors and realized that installing the solenoids for the aftermarket kit would be nearly impossible.. So I'm heavily considering trying to restore functionality of the original central locking...

note: I didn't change anything in regards to the oem central locking, didn't cut any wires etc. so all should be as before trying to install aftermarket kit..

Thing is, the oem central locking has never worked while I've had it (half a year), so I'm not really sure what to do to make it work again... I can tell you that no plugs in the door locks have been disconnected and no wires running through the door broken..

Which steps can I take towards identifying the problem?

cheers.

Also, how can I be sure that there's power to the actual pump and that it is active??

You need to open the cover in the boot to get to the central locking pump unplug the multi plug to the pump. using a probe tester  ask a mate to lock the door with the key you should get a live going to the pump and then unlock the door and there should be a live going to the pump if the pump is making no noise what so ever try to power the pump with a live and earth if nothing happens pump is dead you can pick them up at scrappie i would use stevens vw dismantelers on ebay 90 day guarantee i had a abs pump from them worked perfect

Okay. So when I have someone pull the driver's door pin up and down, I hear small sounds vacuumish sounds from the vacuum pump (lol don't know the right words for the sound). Anyway, does this mean there's power going to the pump? And if so, what needs to be done? Is it the pump that's done?

Yes power is going to pump. Could be that it is leaking air somewhere. Likely places are where the hose goes in to the doors, and also at the fuel flap actuator.

Looks like someone cut over the hose going to the pump:

And it wasn't the pump making sounds, it was the hose coming from the lock, pushing just a tiny bit of air in and out of the tube when locked and opened..

There is power going to the pump (checked with a probe). There is also a change in voltage in the wires when opening and locking the doors, so that is working too... also cleaned the backside of the pcb as it was insanely dirty.

So how do i go about rejoining the two pieces of tubes?? Hoping the pump will work afterwards, otherwise I surely must need a new one, right?

Cheers and thanks guys.

Also, is it likely that he pump could have failed without any air leaks in the pipes around the car?

In your case the vacum hose is broken your pump is working fine depending on the thickness of the hose that is broken you can use a variety of things from washer jet pipes to rubber hoses aswell as vacum pipes aslong as its a tight fit and slides over the pipe it should be fine

If you dont want to cheap fix it order a new pipe
