Thanks for all the replies, no other main VW dealer in my area, can it go to an approved VW garage for warranty work ?

Contacted VW customer services today, found out that dealer had already contacted them a few months ago looking for advice on a way forward with my vehicle, thats probably why he replaced the clutch and flywheel with no hesitation, VW probably told him to.
But due to this ongoing issue VW have now raised a 'case' on the fault and a case manager will be assigned to it today, they will reply to me within 48hrs

Customer services did wonder if there is an inherent fault with the car, not just the clutch, flywheel, gearbox components, time will tell.

Have just been checking out the VWVortex site, all posts are USA Golf R related but found many threads about clutch problems.
Some really interesting stuff on there, it seems the USA Golf R's are experiencing the exact same problems as me on my Edition 35.
Looks like VW already know about this problem but not doing much about it, seem happy to keep replacing clutch and flywheels until the warranties run out.
Most theories seem to be that the pressure plate is warped and this causes the clutch to only grab the outer edges, therefore causing the 'knocking, thumping' noise when putting any load on the clutch.

Am I correct in saying that the Edition 35's have the exact same engine (detuned to 232bhp) and gearbox as the Golf R's.

Hi all, have been missing for a while but last update on my Edition 35:

After much waiting about for dealer to do something to try and fix the issues, even with VW customer care on his back I decided to ditch the car......too many issues and the fun factor had disappeared.

My terrific salesman at VW managed to find me a VW owned Nov 2012 3dr Golf R in Steel Grey, 4500 miles and fully loaded with sunroof, colour sat-nav, f & r parking sensors, 19 Talladegos and mint condition.
Got a very decent px on the Ed35 and the rest is history.

I was gutted to see the ED35 go but with the ongoing mechanical problems I had no choice, I hope somebody gets the car and gets VW to fix it, the car had 11200 miles on the clock, not a single stone chip, had been looked after with only the best detailing products. Had never been thrashed, opened up a bit on great twisty country roads but never thrashed.

As for the R.......wow, it's a fantastic motor, and so different from the ED35, with the AWD and extra power it's a beast in sheepskin clothing, reminds me very much of my 58 plate R32.

I will keep on visiting the forum it's been great for info on the 35 and the banter is brilliant, will now be a regular on the Rforum, it also seems many on here also visit the Rforum.
So it's goodnight from me and to everyone on here take care and enjoy your GTi's

Here are a couple of pics of my new R
