Ongoing gearbox issues with Ed35
« on: 10 April 2013, 08:43 »
The saga continues with my now year old Edition 35.
Only four weeks ago after many clutch / flywheel / gearbox problems my local VW dealer service manager decided to replace the clutch and flywheel to try and eliminate these ongoing issues. All seemed ok, not perfect but ok, the 'knocking' noises when putting any load on the clutch seemed to have been 95% fixed.
But as the weeks have passed the 'knocking' has returned, it's at a point where I am fed up with the car, no pleasure in driving it anymore, and unless I get something sorted in the next few weeks it will have to go.

Contacting dealer today for more assistance.

Oops, forgot to mention its a manual gearbox.
Dealer did mention last time that if the clutch/flywheel changeout did not fix it then the only other option was a new gearbox.

Update no.1
Spoke to VW dealer service manager today explaining that the 'knocking' had returned when releasing the clutch.
Checked mileage from previous fix of new clutch and flywheel, have only done 1800 miles on the original fix. I mentioned that from conversation before original fix the words 'if this don't work it will probably need a new gearbox' but this seems to be not the case and the dealer wants to fit another clutch and flywheel ?
He reckons the NEW clutch / flywheel may have been faulty when they were installed ?
Does not say much for genuine VW parts fitted by a dealer.

Car booked in next week for another attempt to fix the car, not holding my breath on this one, also not sure where I stand with regards to this ongoing problem as its been there since day one.

Starting to wonder why I ever ditched my R32, never missed a beat from day one.

Not sure if I believe the dealer saying the clutch / flywheel may have been faulty...sounds like the box to me...I would be at them all the time, until it was resolved...touch wood i've had mine for 15,000 miles and not a problem..

The problem only occurs when the clutch is released, previously it was mainly when holding the car on the clutch for very short periods, or when on an incline, but now it's all the time.
Even pulling away from traffic lights, roundabouts, the 'knocking' and some slight vibration through the clutch pedal can be felt, passengers can also hear the knocking.
Dealer says because problem only occurs when clutch is released it cannot be the gearbox, has to be clutch/flywheel.

Driving the car everyday is no pleasure anymore, totally fed up with it.
