How Can You Tell??
« on: 02 August 2005, 20:55 »
Just wondering how you could tell if your mk2 was modified?

It's just, My mk2 goes like a rocket, I mean i know there fast but the amount of races I've had with people and I've always come up tops.

Don't know what the average top speed of these cars are but this is no lie, going down the A14 hitting 145mph and also hitting the rev limiter.

Also had a race with 325i BMW from about 0-100 and gained about 2 car lengths in-front of him..

Are these just normal comparisons or do you think my golf could be modified?

Could be a number of things. I do know that the early small bumper helious blue 8v's were fast

i raced a 2.2 honda accord (duno if it was a vtech) in my early helious blue mk2 8v and i left it for dead. The thing went off the clock  no lie :lipsrsealed:

completely standard engine aswel.

A decent RR session will let you know power and torque curves of the car. Only thing though is different RR can show different power outputs .. so dont take things as gospel. Decent RR is Stealth's , JBS's ... i believe Westec has a good RR and Awesome have just got in too ...

145mph was it downhill??
to be honest must be modified cant think what mods you could do to make it go 145mph unless you had a 2l bottom end and some serious engine work if im right the 8v can only do 115mph so im stumped

My MKII 8v powers past 115. If i had clocks that went up to 140 i would 90% sure i was doing 130 MPH (But clocks lose accurcy after 70/90 MPH)  and still 1,500 RPM left till it was flat out. I stopped because i dont want to kill the car. Was just a test to se what it was cappable of and was done on private road which had a slight inclines/declines.

speedos are out from 0mph, they just get worse the more speed your doing. 60 on a gtech reads 66ish on my speedo :undecided:

I forgot to mention that it's a 87 MK2 GTI 16v.

When reaching 145 it was on a slight downhill but it pulls round to 138-140 no problem all the time.

apart from getting it rolling roaded u could take the rocker cover off and see if the cams are VAG stamped

gearing wise 16v's are meant to top out at 129mph, so your 145mph indicated on speedo sounds about right. if its the original 2y gearbox thats still in it
